Associates

New associates joining the Jones Walker team begin working in a specific practice group based on their experience or area of interest. As their knowledge and skills develop, we encourage our associates to take charge of their own careers and take an active role in cross-practice collaborations.  

Along the path to partnership, our associates participate in the firm’s robust training program designed to provide structured, practical guidance on topics such as business development, law firm financials, and specific issues related to practice and industry teams. Associates are also encouraged to take advantage of seminars, CLE presentations, and other self-guided programs designed to advance their careers.

The firm’s formal mentor program is separated into three phases:

• Phase 1 is primarily designed to improve integration of new associates into the firm
• Phase 2 is geared toward improving the substantive skills of the mid-level associate
• Phase 3 is intended to encourage a dialogue regarding long-term career and business development goals and to prepare the senior associate or participating special counsel for promotion

With these objectives in mind, we welcome the opportunity to meet experienced laterals interested in joining our established practice groups. We also entertain conversations with seasoned lawyers who bring the drive and ambition that will allow us to add new dimensions and go beyond our current breadth.

Jones Walker lawyers regularly enhance their knowledge and skill sets by taking advantage of online and in-person CLE offerings, as well as by attending seminars, educational symposiums, and special events hosted by bar and industry associations, colleges and universities, our clients, and others. We are also proud to have many thought leaders within the firm who are called upon to share their insight and experience by serving as featured speakers or panel members at such forums.
