Marc Amy is special counsel in the Litigation Practice Group and a member of the property and personal injury team.
Marc previously concluded 24 years of service as an appellate judge on the Louisiana Court of Appeal, Third Circuit, when he retired from the court in December 2018. He was first elected to the Third Circuit in 1994 and was twice reelected. He draws on extensive experience across a broad array of substantive areas to consult on issues in appellate litigation and aspects of judicial process at all stages of litigation. During his tenure as a judge on the court of appeal, he sat on more than three thousand appeals and delivered the majority or lead opinion in more than a thousand cases. He additionally issued hundreds of concurring and dissenting opinions and participated in uncounted writ decisions. Marc’s wide range of experience informs his appellate practice for the firm.
Marc has a strong record of service, leadership, and is an elected member of the American Law Institute, a Life Fellow of the American Bar Foundation and a past president of both Louisiana Appleseed and the Louisiana Bar Foundation. He was appointed by the Louisiana Supreme Court to the Judiciary Commission of Louisiana and the Louisiana Appellate Court Performance Standards Commission. Marc served on committees of the Louisiana State Law Institute for projects on the laws of mandate, domicile, deposits and definitions, loan, rents and annuities, respite, aleatory contracts, signification of terms, and water law.
Prior to his service on the Third Circuit, Marc was an assistant district attorney for the Fifteenth Judicial District of Louisiana and was engaged in the general practice of law in Abbeville, his hometown.
