Before joining Jones Walker, Grant served as a law clerk to Judge Taylor B. McNeel of the US District Court for the Southern District of Mississippi. He also completed a clerkship with Presiding Judge Jack L. Wilson of the Mississippi Court of Appeals.

Prior to his clerkships, Grant spent nearly three years as in-house counsel for a Mississippi state agency, where he worked alongside the agency's special assistant attorney general and handled legislative drafting, employment disputes, contract review, and policy implementation.
