Rob Worley, a partner in the Litigation Practice Group, is a seasoned trial lawyer with nationwide experience. Rob also has C-suite experience as a former public company general counsel and calls upon that experience in representing the firm’s clients in litigation.
Rob has defended clients successfully in hundreds of lawsuits in 34 states across the country, and collectively has tried more than 80 jury trials, bench trials, administrative trials, and arbitrations in 21 of those states. He has defended a variety of litigation, including commercial, maritime, land-based casualty, and employment litigation. Rob has presented oral arguments before the US Courts of Appeals for the Fifth, Sixth, Seventh, Eighth, and Eleventh Circuits as well as before the Louisiana Circuit Courts of Appeal. He also has extensive experience representing clients in mediation and in proceedings before the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission and various state human rights agencies.
During his time away from Jones Walker, Rob served as executive vice-president, general counsel, and corporate secretary for IBERIABANK Corporation. IBERIABANK was a financial services company with assets of $31 billion and a market capitalization of $4.6 billion that traded on Nasdaq’s Global Select Stock Exchange. The company was a state-chartered member bank of the Federal Reserve System. Rob built and managed the company’s internal legal department, provided legal advice directly to executive and board leadership, and managed outside legal counsel in a broad range of litigation, employment, and corporate matters. He reported to the CEO and was responsible for all legal issues pertaining to the business. For several years, the company’s human resources director reported to him. This corporate experience provided Rob with a unique perspective for a trial lawyer, enabling him to understand firsthand what clients value in outside counsel, both from a cost and an exposure standpoint, and how they wish to accomplish objectives in litigation.
During his initial tenure at Jones Walker, Rob served on the firm’s board of directors, was chairman of the former Professional Employment Committee, and was a partner in the Labor & Employment Practice Group.
Rob is a Fellow of the American College of Trial Lawyers and a Fellow of the Litigation Counsel of America. He is an adjunct professor of law at Loyola University of New Orleans, where he teaches advanced trial advocacy.
