Ewaen Woghiren is an associate in the Litigation Practice Group.
A skilled attorney with substantial courtroom, deposition, arbitration, and trial experience, Ewaen prepares each case from its inception with a singular focus: to secure the best outcome for his clients.
Ewaen has represented a wide range of clients, including those involved in the energy, construction, maritime, retail, and real estate sectors. He recently counseled an independent exploration and production company in successfully responding to and settling claims arising out of Notices of Violation issued by the Environmental Protection Agency, in connection with the sale of the company’s assets. He also represented a large international energy conglomerate in fine tuning its oil and gas liens and prosecuting claims for breach of contract against an oil and gas operator and an oilfield equipment manufacturer. He has litigated claims arising out of breach of a master agreement on behalf of a major retailer located in the Southeast United States against a supplier. Over the course of his career, Ewaen has prosecuted and defended a diverse docket that includes construction defects, oil and gas lease disputes, business divorces, business torts by officers of companies, and products liability.
His versatility as a lawyer is highlighted by his significant transactional skills, which he acquired and sharpened during his secondment with a major global oil and gas company. In his capacity as an in-house counsel, Ewaen advised the operations teams, business units, land representatives, and accounting department in a host of legal and business issues, taking into account business goals and risk tolerances. He served as the procurement counsel tasked with drafting, negotiating, and advising on all unconventional agreements, including master services agreements, engineering procurement and construction agreements, and non-disclosure agreements. He reviewed and drafted the purchase and sale agreement for an asset sale valued at more than $400 million. In his role as the functional lawyer for the major’s oil and gas asset in Central Texas, Ewaen provided practical, concise, and clear advice to the land and operations units on all disputes relating to that asset.
Ewaen was involved in Jones Walker’s 2020 Midstream Oil and Gas Cybersecurity Survey, which reflected the data and security concerns of 125 key executives, security and compliance officers, and general counsel at North American-based independent oil and gas midstream companies.
He currently represents Jones Walker on the Leadership Council on Legal Diversity project, a prestigious group that includes representatives from more than 360 large law firms and in-house legal counsel. Ewaen was also accepted to and completed the Institute for Energy Law’s leadership class of 2021–2022.
